The Quimer Chronicles

The Thatcher family and three of their neighbours embark on a new life on another planet but are things as straightforward as they first imagine?

Two boys walk into a Police Station and report that their girlfriends have gone ‘missing’. The next day the boys not only don’t remember ever going to the Police but even that they ever knew the two girls. In fact, when DCI Branigan starts investigating the girl’s disappearance NO ONE remembers ever knowing them or anyone in the four families! What is going on? Why do the aliens want all trace of the four families erased, like they never existed? And why are the authorities so anxious that DCI Branigan drop the investigation that they will even resort to murder!!

Hell Is Empty is the compelling sequel to the book To Thine Own Self. It continues the story of the Thatcher family and their struggles with their new way of life. Carolyn is well established in her position of power and finds love. But also comes up against new and even more demanding challenges,

We are introduced to the very professional Dily, Carolyn's new aide. A woman with a strong and wilful personality, but who has a mysterious past. A past that threatens her friendship with her Praetor.

Love, life, death and beyond death are realms that are explored in this novel. The reader is taken to places that only your darkest deadliest nightmares would take you, but unlike nightmares, you wake, and they end. For some, this is only the beginning….

… A few miles away from Praetor's estate, a lonely mansion stood at the end of a driveway lined with trees. It had been a hive of activity in its life, now it was just a home. In an upper bedroom, a large knife glinted in the moonlight filtering in through the two locked double glass doors. Blood had begun to pool on the floor. Ornaments had been knocked off of tables and pictures that hung on the walls disturbed. The pictures hung at odd angles and depicted a family of long, long ago. The still around the mansion was broken by a blood-curdling scream, then it all went quiet …

THE QUIMER CHRONICLES

'…Do not touch the stair rail with your bare hand.'

Pamela quickly retracted her hand from the handrail.

'But why? Health and Safety and all that?'

'Your hand would freeze to the rail, Ma'am.'

'Oh, I see.'

They both descended the spiral steps.

'In my younger days, I once dated a Health and Safety rep. Max was quite good at it too. Took his role very seriously.'

The aide now had to shout to be heard by Pamela.

'Did you date him for long?'

'A few weeks, he was into some weird stuff.'

'What drugs and kinky S and M sex?'

'Certainly not. He wrote books, mostly science fiction. He wrote a series of books about alien visitors coming to earth to steal children to repopulate the planet… now, what was it called?' Pamela stopped dead on the stairs, her face turned to one of sheer horror, and panic began to set in. In her mind, she said the words… The Quimer Chronicles, her lips forming the words. 'Oh my God, I never realised until now.'

'Sorry Ma'am I can hardly hear you.'

'Maxwell Deighton's books. I called them trash and said they would never sell, as they were too far-fetched. I never read one, but he was writing Book Four when I finished with him…'
